"I have greatly enjoyed tuition in oil painting with Sonny, building up from understanding the importance of basic principles to now painting portraits with some confidence. He has immense patience, while ensuring attention to detail. I can thoroughly recommend him." J.H.
An Overview of the Oil Painting Lessons
Individual Programs of Tuition
An individual program of lessons can be agreed upon to suit your exact needs and interests. For example, an absolute beginner who wants to be able to paint pet portraits can learn the basics and and then get onto painting dogs as soon as possible, or those who have been painting for a while may only need help with specific aspects - certain techniques or pieces of knowledge to take their work to the next level - and an individual program of lessons can be followed to achieve this aim.
Set Courses
Many students' needs can also be catered for by one of the set courses. See Set Courses in the menu for more detailed information on courses currently available.
General Lesson Content
Learn with step-by-step instruction through special exercises, demonstrations and being guided through paintings as well as conversational tutorials.
All styles and subject matter are embraced (see Key Foundations, Methods and Subjects).
Levels Catered For
The lessons have been designed for beginners who have little or no experience as well as experienced painters wishing to take their painting to a new level. The basics are learned thoroughly so as to give any beginner the ability to independently make their own oil paintings. The basics can also be covered as needed with experienced painters as well as more involved aspects.
The lessons cater for the following people:
Absolute beginners
Art students (GCSE, A-level, Degree)
Experienced oil painters wishing to improve their painting
One-to-one or Pairs
Lessons are usually given on a one-to-one basis, but friends or family who would also like to receive tuition together then lessons can be arranged for pairs.
Schedules
A fixed regular schedule is recommended if at all possible. This can be as simple as weekly, fortnightly or even one lesson each month, depending on mutual availability. Practicing between lessons is very important, therefore one or two lessons per month can work well.
