Composition in Oil Painting - Colour Relationships, Leading The Eye, etc.

What is Composition and Why is it Important?

Composition is the overall relationship of colour, value and form.  The way in which the various parts of a painting are brought together can obviously make an enormous difference to the overall effect.

Lessons on Composition

During lessons you will learn about colour relationships, lighting composition, balance, leading the viewer's eye and much more.

Although composition will be looked at to some extent as soon as one begins making oil paintings and considering colour, value and form, in the sequence of lessons this will not usually be looked at in depth until the key foundations as well one or more methods of oil painting have been covered, with the exception of abstract painting which tends to rely more heavily upon effective composition.
